Late July in Rancho Mirage looks like it always does from the outside. Fewer cars on Bob Hope Drive, patios half full at noon, the mountains hazier than they were in March. What the calendar looks like from the inside is different this year. The city has stacked the summer weeks with reasons to stay in town, two of the newer dining rooms are still finding their locals, and the two biggest reopenings of the fall have firm dates and confirmed tenants. If you live here, this is the summer to pay attention.
The thesis is simple. Rancho Mirage in summer 2026 is a hinge. The July and August programming is designed to keep spending inside city limits during the slow window, and what opens in September and fall will visibly change where residents eat, walk, and take out-of-town guests. The map is about to move.
The July and August Math
Taste of Summer Rancho Mirage is an annual community tradition that brings people together to enjoy local flavors while supporting restaurants during the slower summer months and helping raise funds for local nonprofits, and Taste of Summer 2026 runs from July 23rd to August 16th. That is a 25-day window, and it is stacked with two things worth understanding as an economic mechanism, not just a promotion.
- Local nonprofits fundraise by selling $10 wristbands, residents and visitors enjoy specials at participating restaurants, and the City of Rancho Mirage boosts your Shop Local Gift Card during TOSRM by 50%.
- The gift card boost is the interesting part. A resident who buys $200 in Shop Local Gift Card credit during the promotion gets $300 to spend at participating businesses. That is a direct 50% return before you order a thing.
- The wristband is a sunk cost that unlocks specials at dozens of participating rooms, which lowers the marginal cost of eating out enough to change how often you actually go.
The combined effect is what you would expect. Restaurants that would otherwise run a lean July and August get a floor under their traffic, and residents who would otherwise drive to Palm Desert or Palm Springs have a financial reason to eat in Rancho Mirage. If you have not activated a gift card yet, the math only works while the boost is live.
Four Rooms Worth a Revisit Before Labor Day
The dining conversation in Rancho Mirage shifted during the first half of 2026. Two of the additions belong on any current resident's short list, and one of the older rooms is doing something new enough to count.
| Room | Where | Why now |
|---|---|---|
| Double Date | Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, 41000 Bob Hope Drive | New in 2026, built around a Coachella Valley date and Italian concept |
| Oceana | 42250 Bob Hope Drive area | Newer seafood and steak room, participated in Greater Palm Springs Restaurant Week |
| Catalan | 70026 Highway 111 | Long-running Mediterranean, part of the 2026 Taste of Summer lineup |
| Maracas | 72775 Dinah Shore Drive | 15% off the total bill excluding alcohol during the 2026 Taste of Summer window |
Double Date is the one to try if you have not been. Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa celebrates the fresh bounty of California and Italy at Double Date, the resort's new dining experience by executive chef Jose Lopez, a member of the Omni family for almost 30 years, inspired by the Coachella Valley's reputation as the "date capital of the world." Live entertainment runs five nights a week in the plaza from Wednesday to Sunday, and Double Date is open daily for dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. The concept is not a gimmick. Pastas and sauces are made in house, and the date shows up as a desert-inspired accent on California produce rather than a novelty ingredient.
Oceana leans the other direction, coastal in feel with a steak program alongside it, and it has been picking up local traffic through the restaurant-week and summer-promotion channels rather than through visitor buzz. Both rooms are quiet enough right now that a walk-in at 6:30 on a weekday is realistic. That will not be true in November.
The Fall Reset Is Already Scheduled
Two dates are worth writing down.
September 9. Sunnylands is closed for its annual summer hiatus and reopens Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with the historic 200-acre Annenberg estate accessible to the public only through ticketed guided tours when retreats are not in session. Adjacent to the estate, Sunnylands Center & Gardens offers a contemporary 15-acre space with exhibitions, films, and nine acres of gardens, all open to the public for free during the season. For a Rancho Mirage resident, that means the free gardens, the audio walks, the café, and the rotating exhibition all come back online the same week the temperature starts to break. Locals who treat Sunnylands as a Wednesday morning routine have about seven weeks to wait.
Fall 2026. The bigger date does not have a day attached to it yet. The town center at Cotino, known as Cotino Bay Beach, Dining and Shops, is anticipated to open in fall 2026, and the initial tenants will include restaurant Elevare, locally owned On the Mark Fine Foods & Provisions and Khaga Yoga, and the first U.S. location of Canadian-based specialty coffee shop Artigiano. This will bring a curated mix of experiences to the region while offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy Cotino Bay for a fee.
That tenant list is the story. Read it slowly.
What Cotino's Tenant List Actually Signals
The temptation with anything Disney-branded is to read it as a theme park adjacent to real houses. The tenant mix argues against that reading, and for residents deciding how much of their fall calendar to spend at the new town center, the specifics matter.
- On the Mark Fine Foods & Provisions is not a national import. On the Mark is opening a second location at the new Cotino town center in Rancho Mirage, this location will be more than twice the size of their Palm Springs store with more space to sit down, they are planning to sell both produce and meat, and the goal is to open in the fall of 2026. A grocery-plus-café run by a Palm Springs operator, doubled in size, with meat and produce counters, is a legitimate everyday-use amenity for the surrounding neighborhoods. It is the kind of tenant that makes a town center function as a town center.
- Artigiano as a first U.S. location is a signal about ambition. A Canadian specialty coffee brand choosing Rancho Mirage over the usual coastal-city debut suggests the developer is recruiting rather than filling.
- Khaga Yoga and Elevare round out a wellness-plus-waterfront-dining formula that is aimed squarely at residents who want a Saturday morning that does not require driving to El Paseo.
- Access to Cotino Bay itself will be paid for non-residents. That is a real change to the Rancho Mirage recreation map, whatever you think of the pricing model.
There is a fifth entry in the pipeline that has not been confirmed. Project plans have been uncovered for a possible outpost of The Capital Grille coming to Rancho Mirage, and while nothing has been confirmed yet, the company has shown clear interest in the site at 71959 CA-111, with more than a dozen construction documents filed. The project involves converting an existing building to accommodate a 9,260-square-foot full-service fine dining restaurant with an occupancy limit of 316 guests and a seat count of 275, and the site previously housed Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine, which closed in 2021. Nothing to book yet. Worth watching if you drive that stretch of Highway 111.
A Quiet Note on Living Here Right Now
The slower summer months in Rancho Mirage were never truly empty. They were just less programmed. That changes when the town center opens and Sunnylands comes back online within the same season.
A practical read on the next ten weeks looks something like this. Use the Shop Local Gift Card boost while it is live. Get to Double Date on a weekday before the season crowd arrives. Watch the tenant announcements at Cotino, because a grocery-adjacent operator opening at scale in the middle of the city will affect what your Saturday morning looks like more than any restaurant will. Put September 9 on the calendar for Sunnylands. If the Capital Grille filings move to permit approval on the old Roy's site, that is a fine-dining seat count that changes reservation patterns valley-wide.
Summer here has always rewarded residents who paid attention. This one rewards it more than most, because the fall it opens onto will not look like last fall.
